Happy Saturday, blog friends!
M’s bug is still here and he’s worried it’s strep throat. Yuck. I’ve tried to quarantine him into a separate room in the house, but he keeps weaseling his way back into the family room. Besides washing everything he’s touched and slept on, I’m also following him around with (non-toxic) disinfectant spray. There are lots of viruses going around and I’m bound and determined to avoid it! Luckily for Gus, he’ll receive his beloved park walks as usual this weekend. Nothing stops us from making sure Gus receives his daily exercise.

Last summer we drove back to Iowa to visit our family. Besides when we first moved to San Antonio, it was our first time to make the drive. Normally we fly (Gus has flown seven times!), but we thought driving would be a good trial run for our travels this year. It was interesting to say the very least. The best part about the drive was getting to stop and visit a bunch of fabulous places.
Welcome to…Lawrence, Kansas!
We love college towns. We lived in Iowa City, IA before we moved to San Antonio and desperately miss the culture and overall vibe of living in a college town. We figured Lawrence would be a great place to stop and stretch our legs. It didn’t disappoint.
Mmmmmm…we love Boulevard Wheat. A stop in Kansas City to tour Boulevard Brewing is on the list of things to do during our travels.
Ummm…what an awesome bar name. Sadly, I just googled it and it’s now closed. Apparently they couldn’t find enough Jo Shmo’s in Lawrence to keep it running.
If you ever find yourself in Lawrence during your travels, we highly recommend stopping for a walk. We saw several dogs out walking and our only regret (besides not stopping at Jo Shmo’s) is that we didn’t stop during lunch time.
********************************
We hope you have a great weekend! The temperature in San Antonio reached 86 degrees on Thursday! Unfortunately, many of you are getting another round of snow. Stay warm!

Blog hopped over here! It’s interesting that there’s a “lunch time” in Lawrence – Gus didn’t look too miffed, though, and he’s very photogenic=)

Hi Y’all!
Gus, that is one great shot of you in front of that green wall! Loved the pick with you in the flower box too!
My Human Momma used to live in San Antonio…she loved it and didn’t mind the heat ’cause y’all don’t have much humidity except in the rainy season.
Y’all come by now,

Such warm weather in Kansas. I was surprised to see shorts and a T. That’s great. We’re a Florida family and I’m a bit cold-weather phobic (also termed “I hate the cold!”). Glad you had some fun in nice weather. I love college towns too. My son went to Chapel Hill (as in Univ. of NC) and that was an adorable community–vibrant and a nice variety of things to see and do. Tanner, Oliver and Xena really enjoyed walking around campus and through the town.
Enjoy your travels!

Strep throat is certainly no fun I hope he gets well soon. Lawrence looks like a really nice town and Gus certainly is enjoying himself. While 86 is a tad bit warm, it’s only 16 here this morning. Brrrrrr

Great pix of Lawrence. College towns are fun, aren’t they?
I always joke that I could transplant to Madison, Burlington, or any other cold, snowy college town and figure I’d never left Ithaca.
Lucky Gus gets to visit so many interesting places.

I love college towns! I went to college at WVU and if you’re ever in that area-Morgantown is a perfect, little college town to visit. My friend went to school in Iowa and had nothing but good things to say about Iowa City and I kinda want to visit there (ok and so I can quote Field of Dreams–”Is this heaven?” “No, it’s Iowa”)
I adore the pic of Gus in front of the lime brick building!

So nice to catch up with you on this Saturday Blog Hop! Sorry the flu has been holding your household hostage — Jeannie cancelled her Saturday morning meeting due to body aches. I think this may be going around SanAnto.
How exciting that you’ve been able to travel so extensively together! Jeannie thinks that shipping a big girl like me around the country would cost a pretty penny. Perhaps, if I can whip my obedience skills into shape, she could convince airlines that I was a service dog.
Jeannie doubts anyone would believe this, of course. After all, what kind of terrible person would give a Great Dane as a service dog to a person in need…?

We’re envious that it was warm enough for shorts. It’s not warm enough for that here in Southern California! Opie even had to wear a sweater for most of the day! Sorry about M’s illness. You should go get a culture. I’ve had strep 4 times. It’s a misery to be sure. Every time I catch a cold I chug ( Naked Juices — Blue Machine) That seems to knock it out before things get started. Gotta love those blueberries.
Great photos AS USUAL!
Thanks for the tour!

Eighty-six degrees?! Ooh, I’m green with envy – about as green as that wall providing such an awesome background for Gus’s smile!
Your germ hunting makes me laugh! I’m the same way. I used to work with someone who would lock people out of the office if she thought they were coming in to work while sick! I loved it!

Funny, I actually have a friend from Lawrence. I’ve never visited there, of course, it’s too far away.
Great pictures! Gus looked very happy, I’m sure it does him good to walk around and explore new places. Have a fun trip!

Don’t want to hear about no 86 degrees. Hmph.
Picture of Gus with the flowers is just adorable. When you set out on your journey, you’ll find tons of college towns in New England. We discovered Middlebury, VT, two years ago and fell in love.

We agree — university towns are the BEST places to visit and live. We loved getting to know Davis, California when our daughter went to school there. After she graduated she moved to San Jose, CA where she went to chiropractic college. Bleh. Not a great city. NOW. Now! She lives in another small university town — Fredericksburg, Virginia — and loves it. I hope your M is feeling better.

You guys are going to have so much fun on your travels. There are so many fantastic places to see. Speaking of Iowa City – we visited a wonderful dog park there last summer! It had a lake, a large off-leash area with separate areas for small dogs, and a training area. The coolest thing was that they had a composting system for the dog waste. They provided biodegradable bags for picking up, you dropped the bags down the pipes sticking up throughout the park, and all the waste was composted in a system under the park. Brilliant!

February 28, 2011
Yes, we know all about the cool waste system! We actually looked at houses in the neighborhood right near the dog park.
